On the 28th of January 2002 the European Parliament and the
Council adopted Regulation (EC)178/2002 laying down the General Principles and
requirements of Food Law. It lays down definitions, principles and obligations
covering all stages of food/feed production and distribution. Consequently,
from 1st January 2006 it became a legal requirement for all food businesses
however large or small, to implement a documented food safety management
system, showing what methods are in use every day, and that you know what to do
when something goes wrong. This requirement applies to all members of the
supply chain whether local or international.

Capacity building program for the fresh produce industry
Globalization and growing pressure from international customers and
regulators are providing an ever increasing drive for suppliers to reconsider
their competence, compliance and continual improvement of food safety,
environment, social and quality management issues.
BRC, GLOBALGAP, LEAF, and SEDEX are working with trusted organisations in
different parts of the world to ensure that their members can access training
delivered by qualified trainers, and in different languages.
Blue Moon has developed a comprehensive Arabic capacity building program
for the supply chain and participants receive certificates of attendance based
on the scheme owners regulations.
