On the 28th of January 2002 the European Parliament and the
Council adopted Regulation (EC)178/2002 laying down the General Principles and
requirements of Food Law. It lays down definitions, principles and obligations
covering all stages of food/feed production and distribution. Consequently,
from 1st January 2006 it became a legal requirement for all food businesses
however large or small, to implement a documented food safety management
system, showing what methods are in use every day, and that you know what to do
when something goes wrong. This requirement applies to all members of the
supply chain whether local or international.
Services
1st party audits on behalf of growers, producers, and/or
exporters
Blue Moon's team have extensive knowledge of the requirements of the
international regulations and private standards as well as the expectations of
the retailers and the consumer.
1st party audits are usually conducted under two different scenarios:
Proactive suppliers who are considering certification to a private
standard, and who need to conduct an impartial benchmarking process against
their own activities to identify the gaps against the required standard(s)
before the Certification Body steps in for the pre-assessment or certification
audit.
Certificated suppliers who have already committed to a private standard
that requires “an internal audit to be conducted at least once a
year” but still do not have competent staff to fulfill this requirement of
the standard.
Blue Moon's team can conduct 1st party audits on behalf of the growers,
producers, and/or exporters to verify their own compliance level to:
A specific regulation or private standard
Food safety, environmental, social, and/or quality management system
Contractual agreement with a customer
Based on the results of the 1st party audit and the individual needs of the
customer, Blue Moon’s support can be extended to include Consulting
services for developing, reviewing, and improving food safety, environmental,
social and quality management systems.
