On the 28th of January 2002 the European Parliament and the
Council adopted Regulation (EC)178/2002 laying down the General Principles and
requirements of Food Law. It lays down definitions, principles and obligations
covering all stages of food/feed production and distribution. Consequently,
from 1st January 2006 it became a legal requirement for all food businesses
however large or small, to implement a documented food safety management
system, showing what methods are in use every day, and that you know what to do
when something goes wrong. This requirement applies to all members of the
supply chain whether local or international.

Such a demand is basically intended to encourage proactive food safety
management systems that would increase confidence in products placed on the
market.
As pesticides residues represent a
major concern across the supply chain in most countries, Blue Moon is currently
cooperating with Food Experts, Spain and several international laboratories in
an effort to provide a comprehensive service for scientific MRL residue risk
assessment studies, independent sampling and product MRL analysis.
In order to provide this service to the importers/retailers, Blue Moon has
developed an independent and technically competent team that shall conduct 3rd
party independent sampling of products for lab analysis. In order to avoid any
conflict of interest with the other activities of Blue Moon, the roles and
responsibilities of the independent sampling team shall be limited to:
Taking samples of the products from specific locations
Clearly identifying and labelling the sample(s) with the relevant
traceability information
Blue Moon shall use a reliable airfreight service to ensure the prompt arrival
of the samples to the customer's approved and accredited laboratory and will
upload all relevant information to Food-Experts' electronic platform so that
all authorised parties can access information related to the sample(s) results.
